Fire energy is considered an active direction/element. It causes energies to move toward heaven and away from earth. As such many meditations involve feeling fire energy and moving it around the body to remove stagnent energy and promote active energy processes. Which means increase body heat, wake you up - blood flow and attention mainly. Tends to increase metabolism and overall ability, speeds up healing.
As far as Tai Chi goes, Fire is Ji or Push. Push is obvious. Any strike, punch or kick, can be considered Push. Push is an offensive movement and considered yang moving (go figure). In the essence of a movement Push is used when that little extra movement is needed. For example, if the opponent is balanced (one leg, heel,?) the push will change him/her from a static posture to one with movement or change (falling?).
